NASA Internship positions

NASA Ames in Mountain View currently has 2 open Internship positions.
These are both part-time, paid internships that would be
perfect for a college student, someone just out of college that is not
quite ready for a full-time position, or a recent High School
graduate. Excellent High School student candidates will be considered.
Both Internships offer excellent work experience and any NASA
internship is a prized resume-builder! Interest in science education,
formal or informal, would be a definite plus!

The NASA Ames Research Center Educator Resource Center (ERC)
Coordinator, under the direction of the K-12 Education Lead, supports
the operation of the Ames Educator Resource Center, a facility
designed to support educators in their efforts to incorporate NASA
science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into their classroom
curricula; disseminates materials to regional Educator Resource
Centers located within Ames Research Centers’ Service region;
facilitates teacher professional development workshops, and; supports
other activities of the Ames Education and Public Outreach Branch.
Essential Duties and Functions: Support day-to-day operation of the
Ames ERC. Monitor and follow NASA ERC policies and procedures.
Disseminate NASA Educational Materials. Orient educators to NASA
education programs and materials and assist them to find materials to
support their curriculum goals. Maintain ERC and publications storage
facilities. Recruit, train, and schedule ERC docents. Maintain and
update ERC website. Track ERC use and provide reports to NASA’s online
reporting systems as appropriate. Attend and support selected
professional educator conferences. Support other education and
outreach activities of the Education and Public Outreach office. Duty
hours can be established to meet the requirements of the ERC and the
applicant.

The outreach and informal education functions are charged with
increasing the public’s awareness of NASA’s programs and with using
the allure of NASA to increase science, technology, engineering and
math (STEM) literacy and participation among youth. This is done
through a variety of ongoing activities and special events at NASA
Ames and in the surrounding community, as well as through
partnerships with other informal education organizations
(e.g., science centers,youth groups, etc.). The Informal Education
and Outreach Associate will work with Informal Education and
Outreach program manager providing administrative and logistics
support for ongoing programs and special events, organizing and
staffing events, supporting special tours, preparing informational
material and working with a variety of internal and external customers
and partners to achieve NASA’s objectives. This position requires the
ability to work some evenings and weekends in support of NASA’s programs.

Requirements:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
strong organizational skills, basic computer skills including
word processing, presentations, and spread sheets.
