Future Teachers
CSME wants to support the growth of aspiring teachers. There are a number of programs that you should know about.
Undergraduates
- Teacher Fellowships. This is the best choice for undergraduates interested in K-12 science and math teaching. This program gives you access to a menu of educational volunteer/work opportunities, and even gets you into a private student lounge. Sign up, it's free and you might even get a stipend.
- Spaceward Bound. Go on an expedition into the Mojave Desert, and work side-by-side with world-renowned planetary scientists who search for life in extreme environments.
- STAR Internship. Participate in research with national research labs such as NASA Ames and The Lawrence Livermore National Labs! Also, learn new skills in science teaching for Grades 6-12!
- CSME Summer Internships. CSME offers a number of opportunities to get paid to work with students in K-12 (and even college) over the summer.
Graduates
Mathematics graduate students should be sure to check out the (CM)^2 program. The National Science Foundation has given SF State a multi-million dollar grant to help math graduate students improve communication, teaching, outreach, and teamwork skills by immersing them in mathematics classrooms and the San Francisco Math Circle.
Our partners SEPAL have a number of wonderful programs for science graduate students. Pay special attention to the SPIKE and SEPAL TA programs.
