The Bay Area Science Festival is coming up from 10/23 – 11/1. Here are a few FREE events coming up that may interest you.

1) Event Type: Talk/Lecture

Mathematics, Common Sense, and Good Luck with James H. Simons

Date: October 25th, 2014

Time: 6:00PM – 7:15PM (reception after)

Location: Towers Conference Center at San Francisco State University

Cost: FREE

The American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute present the 2014 AMS Einstein Public Lecture in Mathematics with James H. Simons, the president of the Simons Foundation.

The Einstein Lecture is part of the Fall 2014 American Mathematical Society (AMS) Western Sectional Meeting (Oct. 25–26) at SFSU.

Martin Gardner Celebration of the Mind Festival

Date: Sunday, October 26, 2014.

Time: 2:00PM-5:00PM

Location: Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (MSRI)

17 Gauss Way, Berkeley, CA 94720

Cost: FREE

This year’s event marks the 100th anniversary of Martin Gardner’s birth.  It will include a variety of talks and engaging performances and will feature interactive activities and a wide selection of mathematical games and puzzles.  Children are welcome to attend and participate in these fun activities.

This event is part of a worldwide celebration of the legacy of Martin Gardner, held annually on or near his birthdate (Oct. 21, 1914).  For more information about the Gathering for Gardner Foundation (G4G) 2014 Global Celebration of Mind Gathering

3) Discovery Days at AT&T Park

AT&T park is transformed into a science wonderland for the concluding event of the Bay Area Science Festival – a FREE science extravaganza on Saturday November 1st, 2014 11AM-4PM. Last year, more than 30,000 people enjoyed a non-stop program chock-full of interactive exhibits, experiments, games, and shows, all meant to entertain and inspire. With more than 150 exhibits, everyone can find something that will unleash their inner scientist.
